Sickamore Mixtape DJ, hustler and major label A&R man, 22-year-old Sickamore proves youth isn't wasted on the young:

*This article is from Urb Magazine.com & off of Sickamore's Myspace Page!
Photobucket

One of the most documented facets of the music business is the gap between record executives and their target audience. Interscope's Jimmy Iovine and Warner Music Group's Lyor Cohen may know their shit, but as much as they study and research, they'll never be the young'ns who watch their artists' videos, buy their artists' albums and attend their artists' concerts.

But Sickamore, the 22-year-old Director of A&R for Atlantic Records, feels he can relate. "My favorite line I like to use with people [is], 'I am the demographic you're looking for,'" the youngster says. "It doesn't get more in the [record-buying] demographic than a 22-year-old kid from the projects of Brooklyn. Sickamore has been supplying audible treats since high school, using his obsessive music collection to run a business of selling custom CDs to classmates and opening his own record store at 17. As his mixtape hustle expanded, he started landing freelance A&R jobs at different record labels.

But in December 2006, Sickamore received a call from a bigger label. Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua, whom Sickamore had met upon linking Brooklyn MC Saigon with super-producer Just Blaze, took notice of Sickamore's grind and offered him the Atlantic job. "It wasn't like I had to intern, go get coffee or send in resumés, Sickamore remembers. "It just kind of came because I was already doing what I was supposed to be doing." These days, Sickamore balances work at his Atlantic office job and his own company, I Can Make You Famous. Upset with how other labels lack the commitment to building artists, Sickamore says that this summer, he plans to launch a recurring event where he hits 15 major cities, finds new artists, showcases them in New York City and signs one.

"When you're young, you feel like you're unstoppable," Sickamore says. "It's when you get older in life [that you think], 'Maybe I cant do this stuff.' Right now, I believe I can do all that crazy stuff. When I'm still young and naive, I want to take over the world."

He has plenty of time.

Thorsdays at the Sea Level Lounge!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Last night I decided to go check out Thorsdays at the Sea Level Lounge on Madison in Cleveland. The whole concept behind Thorsdays is to eventually be the spot where all local underground artists come together and put in some work and perform. Last night the event was hosted by Poetryfeen who is also an artist. Some good performances where put on by Drastic and his dude Razorblade! the spot is laid back with a bar, tables, plasma t.v., and a separate room for the performances. It consists of acts for each Thursday then there is an open mic session so everyone who supports real hip hop in Cleveland needs to come down every week for some good music and cool environment!

Are they saying Lil Wayne is falling off?

Photobucket

I agree with this title I believe that Lil Wayne is on his way out along with the infamous T-Pain voice which Wayne has been using along side T-Pain for a while now. People are getting sick of all these "rappers" talking about spending money, cars, and poppin' bottles! Come on people wake up how long can this entertain us? So I support Mad Magazine with this cover.

Trick Trick is taking shots at the gay community on his sophmore album

PhotobucketOn his newly released sophomore venture, The Villian, rapper Trick Trick said in an interview recently that he does not want any homosexuals buying his music.

“I’ma go on the record right now with this. Homosexuals are probably not gonna like this album,” Trick revealed. “I don’t want your f*ggot money any goddamn way. I don’t like it [homosexuality]. Carry that s**t somewhere else.”

Trick says his anger is coming from the fact that it seems homosexuallity is becoming "ok" by certain industry standards, specifically television and becoming more accepted in general society. “It’s just that every time that you turn on the TV, that sissy s**t is on,” Trick told an online hip-hop publication. “And they act like its f**king okay. The world is changing for the worst when s**t like that happens. And I address that issue. I address it hard as hell.”

The rapper takes aim at gay activists Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O’Donnell, referring to them as “dyke b*tches” and promising to send a “scud missile right through their f*cking cruise ship.”

He also voices some bars about same-sex adoption when he spits, "He goes both ways/Either way he’s gay/Ain’t no other way to say/He’s a f**king faggot so I’m lettin’ off my AK/Bust ‘em in his forehead/He ain’t worth lettin’ live/A man and man shouldn't raise another man’s kids"

The album, which is availble in stores now, features guest appearances from Eminem, Ice Cube, Kid Rock, Proof, Esham, Guilty Simpson, and Royce Da 5’9.

*Regardless of the controversy this may end up being a good album, look who is on it!!

50 On Stealing Dre Beat From Eminem, Also, Cory Gunz Speaks

50 Cent Pictures, Images and Photos

In a recent interview, 50 Cent talks about his new album and how he snatched one of hip-hop's greatest producers, renowned beat maker Dr Dre, tracks from Eminem's computer. The track is supposedly going to be Fif's upcoming LP, Before I Self Destruct.
"I did a song produced by Dr. Dre," 50 said. "I got the production from Detroit, because Dre was working with Em right before I got out there. I just missed him. I went through Em's computer and found what I needed. Yes, I did. I got me the record I needed. I was like, 'Wait till they hear this.' I wrote it; Em heard it. He was like, 'You gotta keep that for yourself. This is too crazy.' First, I think he was gonna take it from me, then he was like, 'He gotta use that for himself.' "
Also on the horizon for 50 Cent is a possibility of signing a new artist. The G-Unit boss has already pointed out that he's looking for something new and fresh. Rumors have circulated that that may be upcoming rapper, Cory Gunz. 50 said, "Corey, I met with his father..They have a great relationship with Shaq. It was a long time ago. We sat down, he came to my office, and we talked about it. I told him I wished him the best of luck. He did a song with Tony Yayo recently on the S.O.D. mixtape, and since then, [the streets] been saying I've signed him."
Cory Gunz also spoke about that rumor as well. "I didn't hear about that...I know Yayo and them are definitely family. There's some Corey Gunz things under construction. I'm working with After Platinum — that's my family outta Arizona. We're really grinding and trying to find the right situation. But Yayo is definitely my family. Working with him is crazy. Shout-out to the whole G-Unit. Banks is my man. 50 already knows what it is. That's my people. G-Unit is already family."

Proph The Problem aka Pro to the P H has had his LP out for a while but after listening to it I suggest that if you are into clean cut hip hop this is something you will want to buy especially if you are from Cleveland. Proph is an extremely talented artist with unbelieveable stage presence, but his project he put togeather "welcome back to hip hop" is a very good display of his talent in the booth. You can buy the album off his myspace through pay pal at myspace.com/prophtheproblem!

Asia Nitollano Interview With King Mag. "Whats New Pussycat?"

Photobucket

If the industry truly is a chess game, Asia Nitollano isn’t planning on being anyone’s pawn. With her still-untitled debut album set for an early 2009 release, the singer-dancer sets the record straight on her departure from The Pussycat Dolls and on replacing Ashanti as the Inc.’s new female principal. More important, the Bronx native is hoping to clean up her feisty “bad girl” image, all while searching for some good ol’ sex in the city. Odds are, this stray cat won’t have any problems finding shelter.

By Rondell Conway Photography by Justin Borucki

Your Pussycat Dolls union was shorter than Eddie Murphy’s marriage to Tracey Edmonds. Why the quick exit?
Everything is not what it seems on TV. I thought I was just going to go right into the group and be out there, but that didn’t happen. I had to make a decision for myself. Not that I didn’t want to be a part of the group, because I definitely did, but the group wasn’t for me and I realized that after. I just followed my heart. I’m thankful that I had the opportunity, but don’t be offended by my decision.

Rumor has it that there was some friction with Nicole Scherzinger. Fact or fiction?
[Laughs] I met the group once. Just once. There was never anything like that going on. That’s all I can say about that.

We haven’t been this upset about a breakup since Star Jones left The View. The next PCD album is going to be a tough sell without you.
I don’t know. They did pretty well before me. I wish them success.

Judging from your bad-girl role on The Search for the Next Doll and your decision to go solo, is it safe to assume you don’t play well with others?
They always try to make someone out to be the bad girl, and of course they’re going to pick the girl from the Bronx. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m not like that. I’m, like, the coolest person you could meet. It’s just that if you get on my bad side, I’m going to come out. A lot of girls went on the show and got portrayed as different people. The nicest people weren’t the nicest people, that’s for sure.

Photobucket

Musically speaking, you’ve chosen Irv Gotti as your man. How’d you land at the Inc.?
My manager is a good friend of Irv’s. He was actually the first person she took me to. We hit it off right away. When I first met him, he was like, “What up, li’l n***a?” That’s Irv.

Gotti has a respected track record with artists of your R&B/pop pedigree. Vanessa Carlton, you’re definitely not.
Irv has high standards. Everyone in the room can think it’s hot, but he’ll be like, “No, it’s wack.” I appreciate the harsh criticism. I want to do my best for Irv and for myself. I’m thankful for the opportunity and freedom as well. Not everyone has their freedom, especially on their first album. I mean, he still has his say-so, but I have a lot of freedom.

Save for Lloyd, the Inc. hasn’t been a hit factory in recent years. Does that concern you at all?
That actually motivated me more to [sign with the Inc.], because I wanted to work with people who are first going to give me the attention that any artist would want. I don’t want there to be 50 million people on the label and get shelved—that was my fear. Second, he’s going to work harder because he wants to come back.

Do you feel the ghost of Ashanti haunting you?
Obviously, me being on the Inc. has nothing to do with Ashanti. I’m nothing like her. I’m ready for the expectations. I want people to expect a lot, because I’m going to give it my all. I’m not trying to be like no one else. I think we’re very different in a lot of ways, as far as our music styles. And the one place I think I can hype myself is dancing. You’re really going to see me dance. What you saw on the show was nothing.

DJ G-Spot on Whutthefcuk.com, Jus Mic mentioned as 1 of top 3 unsigned artists!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
1. Splashy: When did you first start to DJ?
Started way back in 1984 in the basement / 1986 at parties and nightclubs. I’m not really old, just started really early in life (thanks MOM for the turntables for X-Mas). lol

2. Splashy: When is the first time you broke a needle?
Man, that brings back mad memories of my DAD. I was like 5 when I had my first encounter with needles (on my DAD’s stereo system). I didn’t really understand how they worked, so I decided to pull it apart and find out. Boy, did I get the ass-whooping of life!!!

3. Splashy: What was your favorite mix when you started to get the party rockin?
Shit, I had a sure fire record that would get the party started back in the 90’s. The song was called “I Wanna Fuck You In The Ass”. Its a house music record and at the time, it would take the party from 10 to 20. lol I would go from Crystal Waters joint or Adeva’s Independent Woman to The Outhere Brothers’ I Wanna Fuck You In The Ass and the party would go bananas. Still to this day, you play those joints in the Chi for a true house music crowd and everybody is going insane. I’m sure not many that are reading this is gonna know any of these records. lol

4. Splashy: How has the technology changed the dj game?
Serato just makes it easier to have all your music without having to carry a million records. I can’t lie, if i’d have to go back to vinyl, i’d immediately retire.

5.Splashy: Whats the craziest thing that happened to you while working a club or concert?
I’ve learned that some dj’s are assholes. DJ’s are divas, especially those NYC cats. Now i’ve met a lot of them that are cool as hell (like this weekend at the New Music Seminar), but i’ve run into cats that are just flat out asses and i’d never work with again. If i did, my job would be to make their jobs fucking hard as hell. so if you’re an asshole and you come in my town to spin and i gotta open for you, come correct or get ready for the heat!!!

6. Splashy: Do you feel that the dj gets no credit?
We get all the credit from the industry, but the general clubgoers don’t care much. they dont care about talent, they just wanna hear their favorite songs. They want a jukebox, not a dj.

7. Splashy: What are your top 5 songs to play of all time?
Noone is gonna know these joints. lol
Prince - Sometimes It Snows In April
Natalie Cole - Annie Mae
Billy Frazier - Billy Who
The Spinners - Mighty Love
Womack & Womack - Baby I’m Scared Of You

8. Splashy: Who are the top 3 artist unsigned that people should look out for?
Phoenix Jones
Twizted Mind
Jus Mic

9. Splashy: Whats in your ipod or cd player right now?
The top 5 joints above, plus some extras.

10.Splashy: What dj influenced you to start spinning records?
DJ Pharris in Chicago. you’ve probably heard his name in a few Common and Kanye records. He started before me, but we made the switch over to hip hop around the same time and we’ve had a good friendship over the years.

11. Splashy: Whats the best party you have ever played at? and why?
Bismarck Pavilion in Chicago, 1987. If you woulda saw the crowd going crazy, you would understand. 5k people in a hotel ballroom, dancing to the hottest music Chicago had to offer and no drama whatsoever. That’s the reason why i’m so critical of the club scene now!

12. Splashy; Any last words or shout outs?
Site is awesome, just wanted to say that. Shouts to www.globalmixtapes.com, www.doublement.com, my new blogsite, www.daentouragedjs.blogspot.com, Core DJ’s, Shadyville DJ’s & Da Entourage DJ’s, we taking over the game!!!!

D.L. Hughley Interview About Obama Selecting Joe Biden As His Running Mate

Photobucket

Did Obama make the right move selecting Joe Biden as his VP?
I have always liked Biden. The problem is, can he get the disaffected Hillary Clinton voters? Barack gets an old white man, and right now everybody hates old men. Biden didn’t win one primary; Hillary won 18.

What do you think of Republicans calling Obama an “elitist”? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle, um, black.
Elitist? [Republicans] put that elitist tag on every Democrat. For them not to know that [Republicans] would try to do that is asinine. Carter, Mondale, Gore, Kerry—they did it to them all. The Democrats don’t know how to fight.

Then do you agree with Obama’s recent emphasis on going negative against McCain?
Dirty tricks is how you win the game. It’s not nice and sweet. Americans like someone who appears strong and tough. It’s important to our self-image. Obama needs to attack him every day. You don’t stop the bully in school by talking to him, by reasoning with him. You stop him by beating him up and taking his lunch money.

Did Obama hesitate because he didn’t want to be branded an “angry black man”?
They need to fight dirty; that’s the only way to win. He should be destroying McCain. McCain’s weakness is that he’s Republican, and with everything that’s happened in the last eight years, people hate Republicans. If you would have told me a few months ago that the race would be tied, I would have said it was inconceivable. There’s a 10 percent difference between a generic Republican and a generic Democrat. But Obama and McCain are tied? Why is that? You know why. — Khalid Salaam

"The name of my next album will be L-U-P-END. That's E.N.D." he continues.

"If you pay attention it's not-- one album. If my mathematics serve me correct, it's not one album on this joint--it's three. It's going to be a triple cd on my next one. I love it too much just to go out with one!"

"We'll call the first one out of the three, we'll call that Everywhere. The first album off LupE.N.D. will be Everywhere. The second we'll call it, No Where, and the third will be Down Here. So we got Every Where, No Where, and Down Here." He tells the roaring crowd.
